Right now a major battle for the future of our food and our democracy is playing out in California. At this very moment, everyday Californians are fighting to help pass Prop 37 to label genetically engineered foods. In the past 18 months, a powerful grassroots movement of mothers, grandmothers, farmers, activists and small companies have stood up to the most powerful multinational pesticide and biotech companies on the planet.
It hasn't been easy. It's taken a lot of hard work and taken significant resources, but already the California Right to Know campaign has raised more than $5 million dollars! This is a drop in the bucket compared to the chemical and junk food companies who have raised over $36 million dollars, but we wanted to take a moment to thank those small businesses and organizations who are leading the fight for GMO labeling in California.
The Heroes of Prop 37!
For many of these family-owned organic companies like Nature's Path, Dr. Bronner's, Lundberg Family Farms and Organic Valley, the amount given represents a significant portion of their annual earnings. They have stepped up to the plate and stood beside their customers and this grassroots movement to Label GMOs.
At Food Democracy Now! we want to give you the opportunity to thank these companies who have been generous and resolute in standing up for your Right to Know when no one else would. If it wasn't for these companies listed on the info graphic we've created below, Prop 37 would not be where it is today - close to a victory on Nov. 6th!
We think it's important to recognize these companies for helping promote the values of democracy and open, honest and transparent labeling here in the U.S. Food Democracy Now! would like to encourage you to support them by buying their products when shopping for you and your family at the grocery store. These companies have our back!
